English as a New Language

MASTER OF EDUCATION

The primary purpose of English as a New Language (ENL) is to teach students English, enabling them to succeed in schools where English is the language of instruction. ENL is not designed to do the work of bilingual education, that is, teach all of the content subjects in the way that will maintain students at grade level. It is designed primarily to teach English by using vocabulary and structures commonly found in the content area classes.

All courses for the ENL master’s program are aligned with the international TESOL standards and with CAEP and State teacher endorsement and certificate requirements.
