Placement Rates of our Initial Certification Completers

Every year, Boise State Teacher Education prepares approximately 160-180 candidates for initial teaching certification. The majority of these candidates go on to 1) obtain their teaching certification, and 2) accept teaching positions in Idaho. Of those completers who accept teaching positions in Idaho, most (about 84% from the 2016-2017 group of completers) stay within the Treasure Valley area (Boise, West Ada, Nampa, Kuna and Caldwell).

How many of our completers obtained certification?

In 2016-2017, Boise State completed 178 initial certification candidates. From that total, 161 (90.45%) went on to obtain certification. Of the 17 (8.99%) who chose not to obtain certification, some of the reasons cited included continuing on to graduate studies, obtaining other non-education related employment or moving back to an internationally located home.

How many of our certified completers stayed to teach in Idaho?

Of the 133 completers who obtained certification and went into teaching, 109 (81.95%) stayed in Idaho, 16 (12.03%) went out of state, and 8 (6.02%) went into other teaching positions (e.g., teaching internationally).

Where are our certified completers teaching in Idaho?

Although the majority of our completers in teaching positions remain in Region 3 school districts, about 15% teach in areas around the state.
