The Student Success Program is designed to help primarily freshmen and sophomores who are low income, first generation college students, and students with documented disabilities to complete a baccalaureate degree at Boise State University.  The professional staff and tutors provide individualized services that address the specific needs of students as they confront the challenges of completing a college degree.

The program provides the following services: Academic development skills, Individual guidance and tutoring, Academic advising, Career planning, Financial aid support, and Assistance for students with learning disabilities.

Federal regulations will allow us to consider only students who are both:

  • A U.S. Citizen or registered permanent resident of the U.S..
  • Currently enrolled, or intending to enroll fulltime at Boise State University, in a 4-year undergraduate degree-seeking baccalaureate program.

If a student meets both the above requirements, we will consider other factors in that student's life which may interfere with the pursuit of a college degree:

  • Financially limited according to federal taxable income guidelines.  If a student is receiving or intends to receive financial aid, the required 75% completion rate will be reviewed in determining eligibility.

  • First generation college student (neither parent has received a Bachelor’s Degree).

  • Physical or learning disability (with documentation verified at Boise State University).

A student must show a need as demonstrated by:

  • First-time Freshman status with no college credits, or

  • Cumulative college GPA (combined grade point average for already earned credits) must be between 1.75 and 3.0 GPA  (1 to 57 credits - Freshman or Sophomore) or between 2.0 and 3.0 GPA  (58+ credits - Junior or Senior).

Further consideration will be given to students who are:

  • Currently failing or have previous failing grades,

  • Returning to college after five or more years,

  • ELL students (English Language Learner - if English is not their first language), or

  • Lacking emotional support for attendance at Boise State University.

To enroll, each student is required to complete an application, supply a current transcript, participate in an interview with an advisor, and complete an academic assessment.  If you feel you qualify and are interested in joining the Student Success Program, then please feel free to call us or visit our office to learn more about the program.
