Become acquainted with the school
district's instructional program and administrative and instructional
personnel of the school.

Act as liaison person in familiarizing
public school personnel with the objectives and goals of the student
teaching program at Boise State University.

Provide mentor teachers with student
teaching handbooks, evaluation forms, bulletins, scholastic and
biographical data of candidates, and any other relevant information that
will assist the mentor during the student teaching assignment.

Become familiar with the academic
qualifications an/or experience of candidates whom you will supervise

Conduct seminars during the student
teaching semester

Clarify the roles of the student
teacher, mentor, and university supervisor through joint orientation
conferences.

Conduct orientation conferences with
candidates prior to the beginning of student teaching.

Visit the candidate with sufficient
frequency in order to secure a reasonably accurate appraisal of the
candidate's performance and professional growth.

Counsel with candidates who may have
personal, academic, or professional problems/difficulties.

Maintain effective public relations in
the school districts in which he/she is working.

Help resolve conflicts/problems that
might occur during the student teaching semester.

Encourage candidates to evaluate their
own progress as a means towards self-direction.

Consult with mentors frequently about
candidate's progress. Collect, interpret, and evaluate all
information available so as to arrive a a final grade for student
teaching cooperatively.

Assist in the continuous evaluation and
revision of the student teaching program.

Complete a final evaluation form to be
placed on file in the Office of Teacher Education.

Complete a recommendation form for the
Career Center to be placed in his/her placement file if the candidate
requests it.
