College of Education

College of Education Summer Social

When the money is tight, higher education is sometimes the first area to be scaled back. Fortunately, Boise State alumni and friends understand the increased value of a college degree during difficult economic times.

At the College of Education Summer Social we saw a clear manifestation of this hope. Alumni Cliff and Danelle Green hosted the picture-perfect evening of good food and camaraderie. Education Dean Diane Boothe shared the accomplishments of the college to the audience of current and emeriti faculty, friends and alums. Among the alumni were recent and past Doctors of Education, some of whom graduated just this year. Truly a group that stands as evidence the field of education is one of endless possibilities.

Sam Byrd of !Diversity Works! gave a stirring and impassioned speech on the importance of education, particularly for those who come from less fortunate backgrounds. He and his wife Lilia, a BSU alum, then presented a check to establish a scholarship for Latino students in memory of emeritus faculty member John Jensen. The Byrds are unwavering in their desire to assist Latino students in achieving their academic dreams by gaining a college degree. The Byrds hope others will be inspired to give to the College of Education as well.
