Re:      CACREP Requirements

Per our requirements from the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP), below summarizes our survey results (compiled every 3 years) and subsequent actions taken based upon the results.  We conduct a comprehensive assessment of our program through surveying employers of our graduates, supervisors of our current interns, alumni, and current students (copies of the surveys are available upon request).  Thank you for your continued support and please contact me if you have any questions.

Employer Survey       (37 items)            N = 20 employers responded

              Skills: Total Average Score = 4.5/5          Range = 3.86-4.85

    3 Highest Items Rated

·        Ability/skill to counsel a child = 4.85/5

·        Ability/skill to counsel a student who’s low socio-economic = 4.85/5

·        Ability/skill to do career counseling = 4.83/5

    3 Lowest Items Rated*

·        Do a simple research study = 3.85/5

·        Diagnose a student using DSM IV = 3.91/5

·        Present at a national conference = 3.86/5

*Actions taken: All students are now required to do a research study (in COUN 512) and will present results        during their capstone portfolio defense; DSM IV (COUN 550) is now offered as an elective every year.  Students   are presenting at state (5 in last two years) and national conferences (1 in 2005), with many planning to present their research studies at the Idaho School Counselor Conference (Fall 06), and the Idaho Counseling Association Conference (Spring 07)

Supervisor of Current Interns Survey  (37 items)     N=22 supervisors responded

*Actions taken: More focus in appraisal (COUN 504) on validity/reliability of tests starting summer 2006; more focus on presenting at state conferences.

    Alumni Survey      (37 items)       N = 30 alumni responded

    Skills: Total Average Score =  4.5/5         Range = 2.93-5.0

    3 Highest Items Rated

·        Counsel a child

·        Collaborate with major constituents (e.g. administrators, teachers, parents, and community)

·        Connect data, run basic statistics, and write up a research report.

    3 Lowest Items Rated*

·        Present at a state conference

·        Fulfill the duties of an officer at the professional conference

·        Administer a measurement tool

*Actions taken: see previous actions.

    Current Student Survey (11 items )      N = 16 responses

·        Results*

o       Theories and Applications were the most useful coursework (other than Practicum and Internship)

o       Practicum should be across the academic year, not just one semester

o       Working with a  whole range of clients was rated best for the Practicum experience (e.g., BSU clients, school clients)

*Actions taken: Theories/practice coursework was recently revamped (in 2004) to help students integrate           material and acquire skills across an entire academic year. Practicum has become more balanced with BSU clients and school based experiences and is delivered across the academic year.
