Suggested Program of Study


There are two programs of study:  one for Masters of Counseling Students/Graduates and one for Non-Masters of Counseling Students/Graduates.  Both suggested programs of study are listed below.
 

Masters of Counseling Students/Graduates

A minimum of 18 credits is required for completion of the Graduate Certificate in Addiction Studies.

Co-requisite for the certificate program is COUN 545/MHLTHSCI 545 Foundations in Chemical Dependency (Offered every Fall semester, evening class once per week).

Course prerequisites or permission of the instructor must also be met.

Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in all certification course work.

Students seeking certification as an Advanced Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor (ACADC) can count COUN 508 (Ethics) and COUN 502 (Theories and Skills I) taken as part of their Maters of Counseling Program.


 

Non-Masters of Counseling Students/Graduates

A minimum of 18 credits is required for completion of the Graduate Certificate in Addiction Studies.

Students who wish to enroll in courses other than those specified may do so by permission of the Addiction Studies Graduate Certificate Commitee.

Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in all certification course work.

Students seeking certification as an Advanced Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor (ACADC) are strongly advised to take HLTHST 469 Ethics for Addiction Professionals and MHLTHSCI 548 Counseling Techniques for Health Care Professionals.
