Introducing Chapter 3
Indians: Idaho's First People
Student Page
Who are the Indians? Where did they live? Do they still live there? Have you ever wondered about these things? Indians who lived in Idaho did not share the same life patterns and customs that you may have read about in other Indian stories. The special kinds of geography found in Idaho helped determine how Idaho's Indians lived.
This chapter will introduce to Idaho's Indians. You will learn many things about them, including the following things:
1. Indians were the first
Americans and the first Idahoans.
2. Idaho Indians were living in their own towns long before white men discovered
Idaho.
3. Idaho's Indians lived a free and democratic life long before white men
came.
4. Idaho was the home of six Indian tribes.
5. Different Indian tribes spoke different languages.
6. Idaho's Indians lived on food that grew wild. They were not farmers.
7. Indians had interesting customs and legends.
8. Chief Joseph was a famous Nez Perce chief.
