There has been a big change in the Idaho Compass. It is no longer just geography!
Beginning Fall 2002, the Idaho Compass will include both geography and Idaho history. The history materials will support the teaching of Idaho history throughout the state, regardless of the textbook used in the classroom. In addition, it will include materials related specifically to the textbook The Story of Idaho. Check it out and find whatever fits your own particular needs.
For Idaho history, just click on "Idaho History" at the top of the memo pad on the "Faculty Room" home page.

"Free" Oregon Trail Posters |
| Here is a terrific offer from the Vale
(Oregon) Mural Society. The Society is offering three posters of the
wonderful murals that can be seen on building walls in Vale, Oregon.
The three posters are free, but they can't afford shipping costs, so they
are asking for $4.00 for postage and mailing tube. What a steal!
The three murals are The Crossing (shown above), The Shortcut, and The New Arrivals. An explanatory paragraph is printed on each one. All the murals are shown on the Society's web site at www.valeoregonmurals.com. Take a look, and you are bound to be as impressed as we are. If you get a chance to drive over Vale way, see the murals for yourself. Checks should be made payable to the
Vale Mural Society and sent to Nancy Butler of the Society emailed us this information. Thank you, Nancy! |

We welcome input from teachers!
We (Kathy and Virgil Young) are the Idaho Compass "websters."
Our intention is to have an informative and useful resource for both students and teachers. We want you, our readers, to take advantage of the "Teacher Talk" page and keep up a lively conversation. Also we welcome materials that can keep the presentation fresh.
For example, you will find pictures and descriptions of some first-rate classroom projects in the "Lesson Ideas" section (click on "Visual Lesson Ideas). We need a flow of fresh materials for this page. Consider taking pictures of your best classroom projects and sending them to us with a brief explanation. (You will be credited, of course.)
We also welcome pictures for the "Looking" page. A photo panorama of your area--town, farm, county, region, field trip, whatever---might be fascinating to someone else. You can send them either as color prints or email attachments. Get clicking!
Comments and other input can be posted on the "Teacher Talk" page or sent to us by email at: virgily@msn.com . (The hyperlink at the left may not work for you. If not, just type our address into your own email program the way you always do.
We hope to hear from you.
