Lowenthal presents at AREA annual meeting

Patrick Lowenthal, instructional designer, Department of Educational Technology, presented a paper with Joanna C. Dunlap (University of Colorado, Denver) titled “Problems measuring social presence in a Community of Inquiry” at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association in San Francisco, April 27-May 1. The paper will be published later this year in a special issue of E-Learning and Digital Media focused on the Community of Inquiry framework.

Drs. Kurt Nilsson, Micheal Curtin and Darby Webb from St. Luke’s Sports Medicine in presentations and a panel discussion at the combined Northwest Athletic Trainers’ Association and St. Luke’s Sports Medicine annual symposiums in Boise, Idaho, on March 15.

Topics covered include shoulder anatomy, injury diagnosis, prevention and evidenced-based conservative rehabilitation versus surgical treatments in physically active patients. The collaborative symposium provided an interdisciplinary approach to continuing healthcare education for a variety of medical and athletic healthcare providers.

Barbara Morgan Part of National Geographic Channel’s ’80s Series

Former NASA astronaut Barbara Morgan, distinguished educator in residence, was interviewed for a segment on the upcoming National Geographic Channel history series titled “The ’80s: The Decade that Made Us.” The three-night, six episode series premieres at 7 p.m. April 14, with additional episodes on April 15 and 16.
