Many people contributed to the completion of this project.  Dr. Todd Shallat, who served as my advisor, was very supportive of this “non-traditional” Masters project, and provided invaluable insights, advice and encouragement.  Dr. Barton Barbour, who serves on my Masters committee, also offered very useful advice, particularly regarding nineteenth century western U.S. history.  Dave Peterson, Russ Heller and Dr. Dan Prinzing are Idaho social studies educators who provided encouragement and advice regarding how to make the project useful for Idaho secondary history teachers.  Larry Kincaid and Errol Jones contributed useful advice regarding the “real” history associated with several of the reviewed books.
I met with several Idaho junior high and high school teachers in the early stages of the project, and they were very helpful in getting the project off to a good start.  They include Ed Torgeson, John Hansen, Mary Lou Taylor, Scott Arnold and Bob Clark.  David Monroe, the College of Education network administrator, and Julia Rice, the webmaster for the Boise School District, provided very useful technical advice regarding the construction of the Web site.
Finally, this project, not to mention my return to school to pursue my Master of Arts degree, would not have been possible without the support and understanding of my wife, Patrice, and my daughters, Rachael and Renee, all of whom have been tolerant of my schedule and my obsession with learning more about the great adventures of American history.
